Exploring the digital built environment

I’ve been fascinated about technology and the built environment since I was a little kid. While building the biggest LEGO-cities in my parents garage, my granddad taught me how to connect light bulbs with batteries. 15 years later, I’m combining my passion for tech and the built environment as a PhD researcher at Eindhoven University of Technology. I research how we could connect and use data from heterogeneous sources in the built environment. To do so, I use Semantic Web Technologies. Integrating decentralized datasources into a web of data is an essential step in reaching data-driven decision-making in the construction industry.

Research interests
I love integrating traditional building information with information that is typically not covered by BIM models. Think about meteorological data, people's experiences and opinions, and time-series data. I research how Semantic Web and Linked Data can be applied to create information rich digital twins. I created multiple ontologies and applications to help the industry building those digital twins. I'm a big advocate of open science and aim to publish all my work as CC BY 4.0.
